Logistics SHE Manager Ineos O&P North (HSEQ)

This person will provide central SHE leadership to the Ineos O&P North European Logistics operations, oversee the implementation of SHE management systems within the Logistics function, with particular emphasis on Logistics Service Providers safety and emergency response, and network with SHE professionals in other Ineos businesses.

Context and dimensions of the job

• The Logistics Operations provides distribution services for Ineos Olefins& Polymers North. These activities involve over 1 million man hours of labour, with an annual spend of over around € 200 million across multiple logistics modes (road, rail, marine, barging, storage).
• A key requirement of the role is to manage multiple interfaces with 4 Manufacturing sites (Köln, Geel, Lillo and Bamble), Ineos O&P North Sales and Procurement division, IMAS (Ineos Shipping) and Logistics Service Providers (on-site service providers, internal and external terminals warehouses, transport companies like road hauliers, shipping companies, railway companies.., workshops for rail cars etc...).
• The main Business products are: Polymers (Polyethylene/Polypropylene), Olefins (Ethylene, Propylene, Butadiene etc..)
• The Logistics SHE manager must ensure that these products are handled, loaded and unloaded, transported and stored in a safe way.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

• Setting standards for the safe handling of the Company’s products.
• Assess the risks associated with logistics operations and set associated codes of practice, recommend appropriate actions to manage the risks. e.g.: bagging line operations, forklift operations, transport of dangerous goods by rail, storage of dangerous goods etc...
• Advice on the safe handling of Company’s products, including raw materials and catalysts.
• Provide interpretation of the requirements imposed by the Company’s policies and practices, national legislation and international agreements concerning the transport of goods e.g. ADR requirements, load securing requirements etc..
• Advice on the design and construction of distribution equipment (trucks, forklifts, rail cars..).
• Inspection/ audit of storage facilities, both of suppliers and customers and provide guidance on safe operating practices to service suppliers and customers and gain assurance that company’s policies are being followed.
• Advice on the provision of suitable packaging for company’s products.
• Assess the competence of suppliers of distribution services to meet the technical and safety requirements for handling and distribution of our products (e.g. companies loading our products, hauliers, railway companies, warehouses and terminals etc..).
• The maintenance, operation and testing of an off-site SHE Emergency Response Plan
• Provide leadership in driving continuous improvement in SHE performance across all Logistics activities.
• Co-ordinate interfaces between peer groups to discuss mutual safety topics (haulier working groups, Pan Ineos working groups..)
• Monitor Logistics’ SHE performance and track reported incidents and actions
• Co-ordinate and lead the investigation of logistics incidents and accidents
• Maintain the Ineos O&P North logistics SHE website:
• Represent Ineos O&P North in international association groups on logistics safety (ECTA/ CEFIC)
• Take up the role of Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor (ADR)
• Requirement to influence decisions across the different sites.
• Develop SHE performance improvements with 3rd party logistics service providers who provide storage, handling and freight services across Europe, requiring multi-cultural and multi-language interaction.
• Build strong operational relationships with the sites, 3rd party logistics service providers, Procurement and Sales.
• Co-ordinate customer relationships in terms of safe and reliable product.
• European travel – up to 25% of time.


• University degree qualification in a technical discipline (e.g. engineering)
• Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor Certificate for Road transport (ADR)

• Full knowledge of safety implications of moving dangerous and non-dangerous products across Europe
• Having a safety background is a distinct advantage.

• Good knowledge of the technical characteristics of storage and transport equipment, road, rail and shipping operations and the legal requirements (international and of various nations) with regard to transport, operations and operational safety.
• Strong track record of developing a powerful safety culture
• Highly effective communicator
• Good reporting skills
• Influencing skills, with a track record of motivational SHE leadership.
• Good English language skills is essential. Good knowledge of French and German. High level of Communication skills both written and verbal
